Low Pressure Propane Regulators - Preset, First Stage, Second Stage, and Twin Stage

Gas grills up to about 50,000 btu/hr use low pressure propane which requires a low pressure propane regulator  on the source tank.   Low pressure gas can be natural gas which normally does not require further pressure regulation.   It can also be low pressure propane which is piped into a trailer home, a conventional home, or RV.   In these cases the gas has already been adjusted to a 6 ounces of pressure (10.5 WC inches) at the bulk tank.   Preset low pressure propane regulators and twin stage low pressure pegulators used in RV's and mobile homes are set at 6 ounces.   {Handy conversions:  1" WC = 0.036127 psi , 16 oz. = 1 pound}    We ship everywhere in the world...and the shipping is free to the 48 contiguous US states. CustomPipeBurners.com stocks a complete inventory of many types of low pressure propane regulators: Preset,  First Stage, Second Stage,  Twin Stage in many levels of btu/hr output to fit any low pressure custom pipe burner situation.

204039 - GREEN ACME Inlet Tank Fitting

  204039

204039 - GREEN ACME, Type One Inlet safety tank fitting, is a wrench-less, user friendly, right hand tank connector with excess flow prevention and a thermally sensitive sleeve bushing.

200,000 btu/hr maximum output.  1 5/16" ACME x 1/4" M NPT. Designed for low pressure propane regulators (our COM5 series regulators, and other low pressure hoses and fittings).  Perfect  for use with most gas grills and other low pressure devices.  Installation requires use of an 11/16" socket, preferably 6 point. Order one and we will install it on the low pressure regulator you order.  No installation charges.   Pictured below, for example, is a Green ACME inlet installed on a COM#5 regulator assembly.

Why order a  Green Acme  tank fitting for your regulator?

A Green Acme Type I tank fitting will screw into practically any propane tank except some of the very large 100# propane tanks. You tighten it up clockwise using your hand. It does not require the use of a wrench! Most folks find that very handy. It has safety features of excess flow prevention, which means if there is a major leak, the internal spring inside the Acme fitting will shut off the flow of the gas.  It also has a thermal sensitive sleeve bushing.  When this sleeve bushing is exposed to temperatures over 240 ºF, it will melt and allow a brass nipple inside the nut to shift about 1/4". The forward movement of the nipple will close a small piston inside the cylinder valve and all propane gas will stop flowing.   The Green Acme protects you and your family.

MANC - Manual Tank Changeover Valve Assembly

  MANC

MANC - Manual Tank Changeover Valve Assembly includes (2) - 24" high pressure thermoplastic hoses and Green Acme Type One wrench-less tank connectors with back flow prevention.   Valve is 1/4" ID female inverted flare x 1/4" ID female inverted flare x 1/4" male NPT.

How does a Manual Tank Changeover Valve Assembly work?

The changeover valve will screw into any high pressure or low pressure propane regulator. When one tank is empty, just turn the yellow lever to the full tank.  Then close the tank valve on top of the empty tank, unscrew that Green Acme, and you are free to remove the empty tank for replacement. This is a very simple solution to a nagging problem of running out of gas at the wrong time.

COM-AC - Dual Tank Auto Changeover Low Pressure Regulator

  COM-AC

COM-AC   Low Pressure automatic changeover propane regulator with:  (2) - model 100575-24  24" x 1/4" ID, 350 psi black thermoplastic tank hoses and Green ACME tank fittings x 1/4" inverted flare with safety back-check inlet fittings, and (1) - 5' x 3/8"ID UL approved AGA low pressure gas outlet hose x 3/8" SAE F gas flare swivel fitting.  Longer length Low Pressure AGA outlet hoses are available.  Includes mounting bracket.

How does an Automatic Changeover Low Pressure Propane Regulator work?

This is the ultimate solution to avoid running out of gas.   Regulator changeover valve automatically switches from the empty lp propane tank to the full reserve tank, ensuring a continuous gas flow.  The color of the dial changes from a highly visible green to red signaling that the  first cylinder is exhausted while the valve automatically changes to the remaining full tank. Rotation of the handle to the full cylinder will restore the green color on the indicator.  The built in safety back check permits one to change out the empty tank while the full tank is operational.

160,000 btu/hr maximum output.  1/4" female inverted flare inlets x 3/8"ID female NPT outlet, complies with UL144 and NFPA 1192 requirements for use with recreational vehicles.  RVIA required regulator plastic cap cover included (regulator alone without cap is shown below).   With integral mounting bracket shown below which is convenient to mount to a post or a 2" x 4" block.

TS9209210 - First and Second (TWIN) Stage Low Pressure Regulator Assembly

  TS9209210

TS9209210 - First Stage and Second (Twin) Stage Low Pressure Custom Regulator Assembly mounted on a 12" x 12" x 1/8" aluminum panel with 1/4" mounting holes in each corner. The gas outlet is 1/2" FNPT.    950,000 btu/hr maximum output.

CustomPipeBurners.com has fabricated a complete assembly including a 60" x 1/4"ID high pressure thermoplastic rubber hose outfitted with a 204051 Full Flow POL tank connector. The two regulators are pre-mounted on a 12" x 12" aluminum panel. The panel has 1/4" diameter holes in each corner for easy installation. Dimensions: 12"L x 12"W x 5"H

Why would someone want the First Stage and Second Stage Regulators pre-mounted and pre-plumbed on a panel?

A First Stage and Second Stage Custom Assembly, a two-part Twin Regulator Assembly, which is already plumbed together may be very convenient for situations where you intend to have a portable propane tank close to the house or very near a propane fueled generator.  Also, for use with stand-alone, higher Kilowatt emergency generators which rely on larger volumes of propane from portable tanks.

The large capacity first stage regulator (RED) pictured at right is factory set at 10 psig.  It is equipped with an integral relief valve and built-in 1/8" FNPT pressure gauge tap.   The adjustment range, (normally not necessary), is 5-10 psig.  Output capacity is 2,500,000 btu/hr.  The second stage regulator (GREY) pictured at right is factory set at 11" WC.  The adjustment range is 9 to 13" WC.   It is also equipped with an integral relief valve and a built-in 1/8" FNPT pressure gauge tap.

Everything is already plumbed together and all you have to do is mount it on a vertical surface with the two relief valves facing down.   (The black relief valves are shown at the bottom in the picture at the right.)    The outlet threads on the Grey second stage regulator are 1/2" FNPT so either use 1/2"ID pipe or you can use flexible 1/2"ID low pressure gas hose at the outlet.   Low Pressure Outdoor gas hose for the gas outlet may be found on our Natural Gas Hose webpage.

Why use a First Stage and Second Stage Regulator Separately?

When the large supply tank is installed a long distance from the point of use of the gas, then installation of the First Stage (high pressure) Regulator separately from the Second Stage (low pressure) Regulator may be advantageous in order to avoid noticeable pressure drops in the gas delivery downstream.

The large capacity first stage regulator (RED) pictured at right is factory set at 10 psig.  The adjustment range, (normally not necessary), is 5-10 psig.  It is equipped with an integral relief valve and built-in 1/8" FNPT pressure gauge tap.    Outfitted with a #204051 Full Flow POL tank connector which has 1/4" MNPT inlet.   Gas outlet is 1/2" FNPT.   Supplied with GR-905 mounting bracket, pictured below.  2,500,000 btu/hr maximum output. SS9210 - Second Stage Low Pressure Regulator

  SS9210

SS9210 - Second Stage Low Pressure Regulator factory set at 11" WC. Gas inlet is 1/2" FNPT and the gas outlet is 1/2" FNPT. 950,000 btu/hr maximum output.

A Second Stage Regulator is not designed to work directly with tank pressure.  It must be used in conjunction with a First Stage Regulator.

Why separate the First Stage and Second Stage gas regulators?

When the underground tank is a long distance away from the house the gas technician will often mount a First Stage Regulator on the tank, which reduces the tank pressure to 10 psi.  Then the line to the house is at 10 psi.  Just before the gas enters the house the Second Stage Regulator reduces the gas pressure to 6 ounces, or 10.5 WC inches.  Doing it this way prevents loss of line pressure in the pipe while the gas is traveling the length of the pipe outside the house.  A very minor loss of pressure when you are at only six ounces can affect the performance of your appliances.

The second stage regulator (GREY) pictured at right is factory set at 11" WC.  The adjustment range is 9 to 13" WC. It is also equipped with an integral relief valve and a built-in 1/8" FNPT pressure gauge tap.  Inlet connection is 1/2" FNPT. Outlet connection is 1/2" FNPT. Low pressure outlet gas hose may be found on our Natural Gas Hose webpage. Supplied with GR-905 universal mounting bracket, pictured below.
